CUSTOMER:
Can I easilly change the screen myself?
alex:
Sure! You will need:

NEW SCREEN - http://magicflexcamera.com/screens

  • long screwdriver (I usually use Wera 118004 0,3x1,8)
  • digital caliper gauge
  • locking varnish or better transparent nail varnish
  • shims (included in the package)
  • ultra bright screen (included in the package)
  • rubber gloves (included in the package)
  • focusing loupe
  • compressed air can
1
REMOVE THE SCREWS HOLDING WLF OF YOUR CAMERA
- set your camera to 1m setting and just lift your unscrewed wlf up
2
DUST OFF YOUR SCREEN
- don´t forget to clean your mirror as well
3
TAKE OUT YOUR OLD GLASS SCREEN

- put your rubber gloves on

- use your finger to PUSH DOWN one of the spring clips holding the older screen

- while PUSHING THE SPRING CLIP DOWN use the screwdriver and push it away from the side of the hood to release it from the part that holding the spring in place

- MAKE IT SEVERAL TIMES AGAIN to get the feeling how it works!
4
EXAMINE YOUR OLD SCREEN
The original old "dim" glass screen has matte surface on the bottom (looking toward mirror) and shiny glass surface on the top (looking to your eyes)
5
IF NOTHING HAS BEEN CHANGED BEFORE YOUR OLDER SCREEN SHOULD BE SET EXACTLY TO INFINITY SETTING BY FACTORY.

SO NOW IT´S TIME TO MAKE SOME EASY MEASUREMENTS

- take your digital caliper and measure the thickness of the OLD SCREEN
in our case - 1,32mm the older screen
(very important note, every screen of the non-interchangeable wlf had a different thickness but an average thickness was around 1,28mm)

- your new screen was pre-measured and the thickness written on the screens package
for example 1,47

6
IN THIS CASE, YOUR NEW BRIGHT SCREEN IS THICKER THAN YOUR OLDER BY 0,15MM

( 1,47mm new screen - 1,32mm old screen = 0,15mm)
LET´S COMPENSATE IT!

+0,15MM

EVERY SCREEN COMES WITH PRECISION SHIM SET FOR THE ADJUSTING TOLERANCE OF THE THICKNESS

7
YOU CAN EASILY SAND DOWN YOUR SHIM WITH 600 GRIT SAND PAPER TO MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT MORE PERFECT BUT IN GENERAL TOLERANCE OF 0,05mm IS OK!
8
EVERY SHIM HALF IS EXACTLY 0,15mm SO PUT 4 SHIMS ON EVERY SURFACE OF THE WLF FRAME

LOCK EVERY SHIM WITH A THIN LAYER OF NAIL VARNISH, IT WILL HELPS TO HOLD SHIMS IN PLACE AND PROTECT IT FROM FALLING DOWN INTO MIRROR CHAMBER

9
NOW IS THE TIME TO INSTALL THE NEW SCREEN!

- shiny side goes up to your eyes, matte side goes toward mirror!
- carefully slide the screen in place

10
NOW PLACE THE SPRING CLIPS BACK

- first place the both edges of the spring between screen and wlf side
- pull it down with your finger
- use the screwdriver to pull the spring underneath the holder
- now use your screwdriver to pull the free opposite side all the end and install another spring
in the same way as before

11
CAREFULLY INSTALL YOUR VIEWING HOOD BACK
12
ENJOY THE NEW VIEW!
