DESCRIPTION
Today I would like to show you something truly special!
In 2026, finding a classic Rolleiflex from the 1950s in genuinely exceptional condition has become almost impossible. Just take a look at the Rolleiflex 2.8D or 2.8E cameras currently offered on the market. Heavy wear, damaged leather, corrosion, worn paint, broken meter windows, non working meters and heavily used optics have become the rule rather than the exception.
This is also why you rarely see these models offered by me.
Even back in 2014 and 2015, finding a truly beautiful Rolleiflex 2.8E was already extremely difficult. Usually, achieving such a result required a complete rebuild and a long search for original parts, sometimes using several cameras to create one truly beautiful and original example.
This camera is completely different.
I recently found this Rolleiflex 2.8E which, judging by every detail, appears to have seen virtually no use. The condition of the body, leather, paint, metal parts and its remarkably preserved original case all tell the same story.
For the first time in many years, I did not have to search for better cosmetic parts, simply because better parts would be almost impossible to find. I do not need to replace entire components or build its appearance from several donor cameras.
It arrived like this.
Even more remarkable is the condition of the original optics.
Of course, a lens that is almost 70 years old cannot literally be called new. But compared with what is normally available today, it is difficult to describe it any other way. The optics are exceptionally well preserved, with beautiful original coating and without the heavy cleaning marks, haze and wear so commonly found on lenses of this age.
And this is exactly what makes this camera so special.
A very good Rolleiflex 2.8F can still occasionally be found today. These cameras were produced for many years, and there is still a reasonable supply of both cameras and original parts that allows me to rebuild selected examples to an almost new condition.
With the Rolleiflex 2.8E, the situation is very different.
The model was produced for a much shorter period, and examples preserved to this standard are now considerably rarer than even excellent 2.8F or 3.5F cameras.
As strange as it may sound, a Rolleiflex 2.8E in this condition represents far more interest, rarity and value to me today than another excellent 2.8F.
The difference between an ordinary heavily used 2.8E and an example like this is so dramatic that they almost feel like two completely different cameras.
This is the feeling of a truly preserved classic Rolleiflex from the 1950s, with its original materials, components and optics still carrying the character of the camera as it existed nearly 70 years ago.
And that is something which has become incredibly difficult to find today.

MY REBUILD WORKFLOW AND PHILOSOPHY
Every camera rebuild is its own project.
I completely rebuild and re-adjust the camera from the ground up.
This work is on a totally different level than a typical CLA.
Having full control over the entire process takes significantly more time and a lot of attention to detail.
I fully strip the camera, inspect every part, and bring all internal components and adjustments back to factory specification or even better.
I clean, renew, re-lubricate, and re-adjust the entire camera, then test every function.
As a result, everything works with high precision and often feels even smoother than it did when new. Focus is calibrated exactly to the film plane, and the camera is film-tested on a dedicated stand to guarantee excellent focus accuracy.

Buying a cheaper Rolleiflex may initially seem like the better deal, provided, of course, that you do not look too closely at the details. In most cases, however, you are buying a camera that is more than 60 years old, with an unknown service history, uncertain optical condition and no reliable way to assess its true technical state from photographs.
Many problems may not become apparent during the first days or even weeks of use. They reveal themselves later through soft images, flare or glowing areas on the negatives, inaccurate shutter speeds, focusing errors and other unpleasant surprises that turn your time, money and effort into disappointing photographs.
Even a camera described as “mint” or “recently serviced” may still have problems with the shutter, film transport, focusing mechanism, lens alignment, film plane, exposure meter or internal wear. Cosmetic condition tells you very little about how well the camera actually performs.
Once these problems begin to appear, the buyer has to find a genuinely qualified Rolleiflex specialist, of whom very few remain, arrange insured international shipping, wait for an inspection, search for increasingly scarce spare parts and then pay again for repairs, adjustment and return shipping.
What initially appeared to be a bargain can quickly turn into an expensive, prolonged and exhausting project. Eventually, the camera that was supposed to bring you pleasure may become a source of nothing but frustration.
When you buy a Magicflex camera, you are not buying an unknown 60 year old camera and simply hoping for the best. You receive the finished result of a complete rebuild, assembled from carefully selected and correctly matched components, precisely adjusted and thoroughly tested on film.
The difference is not merely cosmetic. It is the difference between buying an old camera with an uncertain future and buying a Rolleiflex that you can use with complete confidence from the very first roll and simply enjoy photography.
