Rolleiflex / Rolleicord replacement focusing screens

by Magicflex

  • Need a brighter Rolleiflex replacement focusing screen?
    Classic Rolleiflex and Rolleicord TLRs were shipped with relatively dim original screens. They work, but in low light, indoors or with aging eyes, focusing becomes slow and frustrating.
    A high quality replacement focusing screen transforms the camera into a much more “modern” tool without changing its character.

    At Magicflex I design and supply ultra bright replacement focusing screens for Rolleiflex and Rolleicord TLR cameras as well as Hasselblad V-system, Rolleiflex SL66 and 6000/SLX bodies.
    Each screen is made and adjusted with the same care I put into my full Rolleiflex rebuilds.
  • Why replace the original Rolleiflex focusing screen?
    – The original glass or plastic screen is often dim, scratched or unevenly lit.
    – Focusing in low light, with portraits or wide open at f/2.8–f/3.5 becomes much harder.
    – Many owners want something close to an Acute-Matte-D level brightness without spending weeks hunting for rare parts.
    A bright replacement focusing screen gives you:
    – a much brighter, high-contrast image across the whole frame;
    – easier, faster focusing and better hit-rate wide open;
    – a real upgrade for older 2.8C / 2.8D / 2.8E and early 3.5 models where the factory screen is especially dark.
  • Magicflex PRO ULTRA Bright & PRO SUPER Bright screens
    For Rolleiflex and Rolleicord TLRs I currently offer several versions of replacement focusing screens:

    PRO ULTRA Bright – extremely bright all-matte replacement screen without focusing aids

    PRO SUPER Bright SPLIT-IMAGE – bright matte screen with a 90° split-image rangefinder in the center

    All Magicflex screens are custom made and carefully matched to your camera model. They are not generic “one-size-fits-all” parts. For non-removable waist-level finders (older Rolleiflex and Rolleicord models) each replacement screen is supplied with a precision shim set so that focus at the screen and at the film plane stays perfectly aligned or made in the same thickness!
  • Supported Rolleiflex and Rolleicord models
    Magicflex Rolleiflex replacement focusing screens cover almost the entire classic 6×6 TLR lineup, including:
    – Rolleiflex 3.5: Old Standard, Automat, 3.5A (X/MX), 3.5B (MX-EVS), 3.5E / 3.5E2 / 3.5E3, 3.5F, Rolleiflex T;
    – Rolleiflex 2.8: 2.8A, 2.8B, 2.8C, 2.8D, 2.8E, 2.8F, 2.8GX, 2.8FX;
    – Rolleicord III, IV, V, Va, Vb;
    – Tele-Rolleiflex, Wide-Rolleiflex and 4.0FW.
    You can find the detailed list and choose the exact version you need on the Rolleiflex / Rolleicord screens product page.
  • Installation and focus accuracy
    If your Rolleiflex has a removable waist-level finder, the new screen simply drops into the original frame in place of the old one, no correction needed!

    For cameras with non-removable (screwed-on) finders I provide:
    – a step-by-step DIY installation guide
    – or the screen of the same thickness (only possible for PRO ULTRA BRIGHT)
    – a matched shim set, based on the thickness of your original screen;
    – email support if you are unsure about your model or measurements.

    My goal is very simple: once installed, your Magicflex focusing screen should be perfectly aligned so that what you see on the screen is exactly what you get on the film.
